As an All American running back for Boston College as well as a former professional football player with the Buffalo Bills, Dan Conway knows all too well about hard work and relying on your teammates to get the job done.

With over $107 million dollars in residential real estate sales for 2018 alone, Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty’s Dan Conway & Associates have received numerous awards and recognitions while maintaining one of the best reputations in the real estate industry for their professionalism, strong work ethic, and negotiation skills.

So it’s natural to wonder what is the secret to their success?

In the competitive world of real estate, why Dan Conway and his team continues to receive accolades, which most recently include the coveted Union-Tribune Platinum Recognition of Excellence Award and the Five Star Professional San Diego Magazine Customer Service Award for the 10th year in a row.

“The secret is,” Conway says, “there is no secret.”

Embarking in real estate career in 2004 after his successful football career, owner of two bodybuilding gyms and teaching and coaching high school football, Conway says it was a very good transition and one he was ready for. “My wife, who has been in real estate since the late 1980s, knew my passion for certain things,” he says, “She thought being a Realtor would be right up my alley and she was right,”

Dan admits though, selling real estate can be challenging for many. “Real estate is a full time, action packaged profession involving more than getting a license and putting up a sign,” he says. “I was ready for the challenge of seven days per week and up to 12 hours each day. I’ve been called a ‘one arm paper hanger,’ by one of our agents who has worked for us for several years because I’m always doing something and running to the next appointment.”

Taking time out of his busy schedule, Dan recently sat down and answered a few questions about his philosophy and offered advice for those looking to buy or sell their homes in San Diego County in 2019.

Q: Dan Conway & Associates, comprised of 12 members, has been described as a “family.” What can you tell us about your team and why it’s so successful and generates such enthusiastic reviews from clients?

A: Our team comprises my wife, Pattie, our daughter Taylor and nine supporting Buyers’ Agents. We treat everyone like family because they are to us. We’re always flattered when someone approaches us asking if they can join our team. We don’t always say yes, it has to be the right fit. I’m not a big recruiter but I know when I believe someone will fit our needs and their needs as well.

Q: Dan, what attributes from your football career do you apply to your real estate career?

A: Football is the ultimate team sport. When you’re in that huddle and looking into the faces of your teammates, you need to have faith and rely on them to do their job and get you into the end-zone. It’s the same in business, do your job to the best of your ability and get the job done.

Q: What advice do you have for home buyers in 2019?

A: The same thing I’ve been saying for years; what are you waiting for? I hear from buyers that they want to wait until the market slows down or bottoms out. That’s a valid statement, but you won’t know if the market has slowed or bottomed out until six months after it happens, at which point you missed it! California real estate, particularly Southern California, has always appreciated. There have been lulls but for the most part, if you can qualify – BUY! Start building equity. All three of our children have purchased homes and they’ve all seen solid returns in their investments.

Q: What advice do you have for home sellers in 2019?

A: 2019 will be HUGE, we have so many sellers contacting us to see when they should sell and what the process entails. We figure a sales price, a length of time and estimated net proceeds. We know selling your home is a BIG deal! It takes a great deal of commitment on the seller’s behalf. Preparing their home in its best light and allowing buyers to tour are tremendous strains. We, at Dan Conway & Associates, have implemented a “concierge” type of listing experience. We have preferred vendors who assist us in home preparation, it’s really an easy and wonderful experience from what our clients tell us.

Q: What is the best thing you enjoy about being in real estate?

A: I’m a pretty personable guy and I love to meet new people. There’s one thing, however, putting a “game plan” together and seeing it through until it closes, is very satisfying. When all the pieces come together, it’s like winning a football game!

Q: In 2014 Dan Conway & Associates moved to Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty. Can you tell us why you chose to do this?

A: I started my career at Prudential California Realty with Steve Games and Nyda Jones-Church because at the time they were the NFL of the real estate industry. After they sold and took a well-deserved leave, I went with a boutique brokerage and loved it. But when Steve (now CEO and Managing Partner) and Nyda (President and COO) decided to make a comeback with Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty, they contacted me to come over with them and it was a no brainer. Along with Brian Arrington, the Chairman and Founding Partner, they told me their vision and that just drove it home. I couldn’t be happier with their commitment to the real estate business and more importantly their commitment to Dan Conway & Associates.

Q: What goals do you have for Dan Conway and Associates in 2019?

A: Lofty as ever! I believe striving for the $100 million mark will always be our goal and that’s the plan for 2019.
