Monday, September 11, is the 16th anniversary of the 2001 terror attacks, where we will respectfully remember, reflect and honor those victims and responders who tragically lost their lives on this horrific day and pay our respects to our local first responders.
With several local events and memorials scheduled throughout San Diego to pay tribute to our first responders, Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty broker, Wendy Moldow, has joined with the Escondido Police and Fire Department to remember 9/11 by inviting Senior Citizens from the area to view a unique work of art commemorating this date and encouraging them to share their memories of that fateful day.
Several years ago, Wendy purchased the painting at a Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty event to raise money for Wounded Warriors and Canine Companions charities. It had been painted by a Realtor and brought to Ground Zero in New York to raise money for the fallen firefighter families. A restauranteur paid over $26,000 for this and when hanging it in his restaurant it made his customers too sad, so he returned it to the Carlsbad Realtor who then donated the painting to the charity event.
I really didn’t feel the artwork belonged in my home but instead to our first responders,” says Moldow. Thus began the Journey of The Traveling 911 Memorial Painting and for the past two years, it has traveled from Fire Station to Fire Station throughout our County. “It’s such an emotional piece of art and should be shared recognizing an event never to be forgotten. We can never show enough appreciation to our First Responders who are always there for us.
