PACIFIC SOTHEBY’S REALTY SPONSORS FILM SCREENING AND RALLY BRINGING AWARENESS TO THE STRUGGLES FACING VETERANS
If you passed through downtown San Diego on Wednesday, March 31, 2017 just after 6pm, you may have witnessed a parade of individuals, sporting patriotic colors and holding flags of every size, marching through the streets toward San Diego Bay. The group was heading to a fundraising event aboard that USS Midway with the goal of increasing public awareness and support for several local San Diego Veterans organizations.
If you looked closer, you may have also seen a sea of Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty blue name badges worn by many of the marching flag holders. As a company Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty was the Premier Sponsor of the Patriot Rally and No Greater Love film screening, but it was as a family of co-workers that so many came together to show their support (and open their wallets) for the cause.
According to Dana Anderson, Carlsbad Office Manager, Pacific Sotheby’s Realty, “the march to the USS Midway, with everyone donning their red, white and blue and holding flags of every size, started the emotions. We are so polarized right now. This is not about politics. 22 soldiers and veterans commit suicide everyday. These are our brothers, sisters, kids, parents, family and friends. It’s not ok. This film seeks to start a conversation outside of the military sector and they need our help.”
The Patriot Rally featured a special screening of the international award-winning military documentary No Greater Love aboard the flight deck of the USS Midway. The film explores combat deployment through the eyes of an Army chaplain who carried a camera in Afghanistan, capturing the gritty reality of war as well as the bond that is made among troops. The film shows the experience of war, but more importantly, helps viewers understand the personal struggles of soldiers.
The event also included the presentation of Colors provided by the JROTC Color Guard of Chaparral High School in Temecula, California, a special performance of the United States National Anthem by country singer Amy Scruggs and guided tours of the USS Midway.
All proceeds from the event benefited Angels of America’s Fallen, American Legion Post 416, USO San Diego and Operation Engage America, all local organizations that strive to help the families of the men and women of the U.S. Military, Veterans, and Gold Star families.

Prior to the main event and film screening on the USS Midway, Pacific Sotheby’s Realty hosted a private VIP reception at the sales office of Savina by Bosa. The reception featured a talk from Chaplain Justin Roberts, Producer of the documentary No Greater Love and a silent auction that raised over $10,000 for the event.

For those who sadly do not return, families are left behind often with very little means of support.”

In these days of modern technology and virtual reality, Realtors are often asked if Open Houses are still a valuable marketing tool for sellers. The answer is…YES!
“Our Realtors develop a comprehensive marketing plan for their clients and open houses are one of the pieces of the overall marketing strategy that help to increase exposure for their listings,” according to Brian Arrington, CEO, Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty.
Open houses bring traffic to the home with the general premise that more traffic leads to better exposure, which in turn leads to a quicker sale. By removing one of the marketing strategies, you can still sell the house, but may be limiting your buyer pool.
On May 6th and 7th, 2017 Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty held their bi-annual Open House Showcase. Over 170 properties, from Coronado to Carlsbad, La Jolla to La Mesa and just about every neighborhood in between and all around participated in the weekend event. The Showcase was heavily promoted through print and online advertising as well as social media, which served to further increase awareness and drive a high volume of traffic to the open listings.
“In the past, open houses were a way for buyers to explore neighborhoods and have questions answered about the community and schools,” adds Arrington. “Now with the information that is available online, buyers are coming ready to see specific homes, many are already pre-qualified by their lender and ready to make that offer.”
Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty’s Open House Showcase proved to be a great success for several agents over the weekend. Many of those who participated said that they developed a substantial number of new clients and several offers were submitted. One of those offers was made between the clients of Pacific Sotheby’s Realty agents, Kathleen Connor and Barbara Maquire, representing the seller and Katie Hawkes, representing the buyer, all Realtors with the Rancho Santa Fe office. According to Connor “Katie’s clients were driving around and getting familiar with the neighborhood and stopped to tour our open house. Spring is here, and May has been declared “National Moving Month.” The National Census reports over 40 million people move during the summer months, which makes May a designated time for planning, organizing and of course, packing. According to Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty, this can be an exciting adventure, but also stressful, especially for children.
Pepper Coffey, Executive Director for Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty Relocation and Referral Division, says there are strategies parents can use when preparing for a move, whether it be down the street, or across the country. “Relocating can be hectic, and while each child and experience is different, there are ways to make it as stress free as possible.” It is especially critical, according to parents who have moved frequently, to keep communication open and immediately address whatever concerns your children may have.
Here are five tips to consider if you are preparing to move this summer:
Unpack Bedrooms First – On moving days, focus on bedrooms first. At the very least, have children’s mattresses, special toys, sheets, pillows and blankets ready for them that first night. Prior to moving, pack and color code what your child will need for that first evening. Load this box last, along with a box of a few of their favorite toys and books, to ease the confusion. Another idea that works well, is to have an “emergency box” filled with snacks, and perhaps a new toy. Wrap in special duct tape so it’s easily identifiable.
Plan Meals In Advance – It’s a scenario that is all too familiar: You are in the middle of unpacking and you realize it’s well past dinner time and children are clamouring for food. To avoid this, schedule what you will be eating during the first week as you settle into your new home. Have you or your older children do a google search for restaurants or take out options in the area. There will be no confusion or cries of “What’s for dinner?” and it’s a fun way to experience the popular spots in town.
Get To Know The Community – Moving to a new neighborhood is hard. Take a break from unpacking and meet the neighbors. If your child is involved in extracurricular activities, check out what opportunities are around town as this is a great way to meet other children and parents. Explore your new community together to find the best parks, playgrounds, restaurants, shopping and ice cream shops!
- Visit The New School – Attending a new school is perhaps the most difficult experience for children when moving. Chances are, they will ask a variety of questions to settle their nerves. To ease the transfer, take a tour so they know their way around the school before their first day. Children are stressed enough about trying to fit in, so they shouldn’t need to worry where the cafeteria or bathrooms are located.
- Get Back On Schedule – Children function better when they follow a schedule. While moving can be unpredictable at times, it’s important to get into your normal routine by having meals, naps, bedtime and all its rituals, as soon as possible.
When relocating, Pepper also advises, “It’s incredibly important for children of all ages to say goodbye to the home they are leaving. As part of the letting go process, it’s good to provide children with an opportunity to close this chapter by throwing a goodbye party, making a going away gift, or spending time with favorite people before the move. Finally, remind them that the most familiar thing will be right alongside them during this new adventure: their family!”
