Open House San Diego 2018 will take place March 24 & 25 at specially curated sites throughout Downtown, Bankers Hill, Barrio Logan and new for 2018, Point Loma. We invite you to celebrate our beautiful city’s built environment!
With over 80 must-see architectural sites located throughout Bankers Hill, Balboa Park, Downtown, Barrio Logan, and new this year, Point Loma, OH! San Diego offers FREE, behind-the-scenes tours of the iconic, cutting-edge, and historical buildings that shape our city’s DNA. Each site is chosen for its unique contribution to our shared experience through architectural design, historic value, cultural significance, repurposing of space, or environmental sustainability. OH! San Diego was founded in 2015 by San Diego native Susanne Friestedt, who was committed to making San Diego the third city in the United States to become an official Open House Worldwide City, joining New York and Chicago in this distinction.
Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty is proud to be the Title Sponsor for 2018 OH! San Diego and is excited to announce that the company’s Liberty Station office located at 2850 Womble Road in Point Loma will be one of the featured sites on the tour. The office is located on the site of the former Naval Training Center in Old Building 30, and originally served as a place where recruits could take some much-needed leisure time. 1930s recruits could drop off laundry or post a letter home, by the 1970s, even grab a pizza or a burger. The nearby courtyard area, called a grinder, was used as a marching location for decades by almost all recruits who trained at the Naval Training Center. Our building was constructed during the second phase, replacing the Detention Camps. Detention Camps were also known as Tent Cities and were home to new recruits, thus making sure they didn’t carry any diseases onto the base.
