San Diego-area Cities Score High Among America’s Safest Cities

Poway, California residents and homebuyers are a lucky bunch, as the city has recently been ranked among the 10 safest cities across America. But it’s not the only area in San Diego to rank highly.

Recognizing its importance, on-demand home services company SERVIZ recently became concerned with the issue of home safety across America when it realized that it was failing as many as 1 in 3 home contractors for criminal background checks in some areas.

Concerned at these numbers, SERVIZ then researched and assembled its groundbreaking new Home Safety Rankings (HSR) Index for over 100 metropolitan areas across the U.S.

The result? San Diego-area residents and prospective homeowners can rejoice, as the area came out with some high rankings and ratings overall.

Protected in Poway

Leading the way was local San Diego metro-area city Poway, which ranked among the top of that list. Out of 108 metro areas analyzed and ranked for home safety, Poway was ranked the #8 safest across the United States, with a score of 64 out of 100 (100 is safest) and an A+ overall safety rating.

The SERVIZ Poway and San Diego-area Home Safety Ranking was achieved as a result of proprietary data collected over the last 5 years serving over 200 thousand customers, and 300 thousand home improvement jobs, and other publicly available sources. In addition to nationwide rankings on 108 cities, the HSR examines the home safety habits and concerns of residents through city page infographics, and the statistics and findings have the approval of the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) as well.

Your chance of becoming a crime victim in Poway is just 1 in 87—quite a contrast to Washington, D.C., for instance, which was 1 in 4.

San Diego-area Safety

Neighboring cities to Poway also scored high on the SERVIZ Home Safety Ranking Index, with San Marcos receiving a highly ranked 38 out of 100 on the safety index, and an A- overall score. Carlsbad scored well too, with a 34 out of 100, a B+ rating, and with citizens having a 1 in 48 chance of being the victim of a crime.

Your chance of being the victim of a crime is 1 in 52 in San Marcos (a very good number), 1 in 48 in Carlsbad, and in San Diego itself, homeowners have a 1 in 39 chance of becoming a crime victim (considerably safer than the average of 1 in 33 across California, or with the national average of 1 in 35 across the U.S.). San Diego residents’ biggest concerns, meanwhile, were crime (58.5%), earthquake/flood (36.8%), and fire (34.9%).

San Diego also scored well in the Index overall, with a B- score that was higher than most other U.S. cities. In the San Diego metro area, 1 in 9 home repair pros failed background checks – a good statistic when compared to other cities like Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Dallas, and more.
