The 46th San Diego Bay Parade Of Lights | Sunday, December 10 & 17, 2017

It’s a time honored holiday tradition, and this year the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights promises to be as spectacular as ever.  Presented by the Port of San Diego and held on two consecutive Sundays, this one of a kind boat parade featuring approximately 80 lavishly decorated vessels of all shapes and sizes, starts at 5:00pm on both nights at Shelter Island.  The schedule is as follows:

  • Shelter Island 5:00pm
  • Harbor Island: 5:30pm
  • The Embarcadero: 6:00pm
  • The Pier at Cesar Chavez Park: 6:45pm
  • Ferry Landing on Coronado: 7:00pm

This  year’s theme is “Arrrgh. A Pirate’s Christmas, and it takes anywhere from 1 hour to 1.5 hours to pass any given point. Because the San Diego Bay Parade of Lights is such a highly anticipated and well attended event, the Port encourages using public transportation since parking lots fill up quickly.  The best places to view the parade include Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, Seaport Village and in Coronado, the Ferry Landing and Tidelands Park.

However, if you are interested in viewing the parade by sea, you may want to check out Steam Ferry Berkeley where even judges of the event will be on board.  Enjoy a meal on this historic steamboat all for $50 per adult ticket and $25 for children. Other options include Flagship Cruises on the Bay, a luxury cruise where you can enjoy champagne or sparkling cider.  Adults $35 and children $17.50

Of course, living along the parade route or within walking distance, means you could very well have the best seat in the house.  Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty has many homes available in the area that will make it simple next year to watch the Parade of LIghts in style.
