What’s Happening In San Diego Over Labor Day

It’s considered the unofficial end of summer, yet Labor Day weekend in San Diego promises endless activities whether you want to hit the beaches, a concert, or even catch some cooler temperatures in Julian. With gorgeous weather predicted for the holiday, the upcoming three day weekend offers everything from grape stomping, to fireworks to bacon, yes, bacon.  We can’t think of a more perfect way to cap off the summer than with any one of these attractions.

Festival of Sail:  September 1-4, 2017: Here is the largest Tall Ship parade along the west coast.  Watch cannon battles, tour ships, visit with crew members, enjoy the beer garden, entertainment and more.  Located along North Embarcadero, it’s a spectacular sight to see.

US Sand Sculpting Challenge: September 1-4, 2017: Head two  blocks south from the Festival of Sail and see world class sand sculptors create stunning 3- dimensional works of art.  Truly breathtaking, this is a popular event that attracts San Diegans and visitors alike.

Padres Game:  September 1 – 4: Grab your hot dog, peanuts and enjoy your favorite beverage while watching the Padres play the LA Dodgers Friday thru Sunday  (with a doubleheader on Saturday), and the Saint Louis Cardinals on Monday.

Bayside Summer Nights: September 1-3, 2017: What can be more patriotic this holiday weekend than watching fireworks dance in the sky to the tune of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and listening to the San Diego Symphony celebrate the end of summer.

Nightime at the Zoo:  Thru September 4, 2017: The San Diego Zoo has a reputation for being one of the best in the world, and through Labor Day weekend, guests are asked to stay after dark to celebrate the end of summer with lots of fun activities including special shows, music and lots of surprises.  It’s also a wonderful time to see the animals come out and enjoy the cooler nighttime temperatures.

Sea World Electric Ocean: Thru September 4, 2017: Electric Ocean is Sea World’s latest attraction that turns the park into a ocean sea of color.  Spectacular special effects make this an evening everyone in the family will remember.

Head to Julian for this annual event that includes wine stomping, food, wine tasting and a Jumbo Jump for the children.  Beautifully set along the vineyards and apple orchards, it’s the perfect place to visit for some old fashioned fun.

Bacon Fest: September 2, 2017: Are you obsessed with bacon?  If so, then you must head out to San Diego’s Bacon Fest which is an all inclusive event at Liberty Station.  Enjoy unlimited supplies of bacon in ways you probably never imagined.

Little Italy Stickball Tournament: September 2-3, 2017: Chances are, if you asked your children how to play stickball, they might look up from their electronic devices and give you a quizzical look.  Now’s the time to head over to Little Italy to revisit childhood memories.  The event takes over the neighborhood streets where you can also find some of the best restaurants and ice cream in San Diego.
